It
all started in 1948 when Frank “Stretch” Longstreth joined the faculty of

Hudson-based private school racked up 18 championships in the Interstate
Private School League (IPSL). During his long tenure, Longstreth coached track
teams won 202 dual meets and lost 78--- including a record 52 consecutive victories His cross country
teams excelled also with the 1967 team going undefeated against 88 opponents.

in the press as “Akron’s most consistent amateur golfer” Dick Paige’s golf
career certainly lived up to the billing. At the early age of 12 , he showed
promise, firing a 69 at Fairlawn Country Club. Then at Buchtel High School
(1943—47) he led the Griffins golf team to two city series titles and a runner up finish at the state
tournament in 1946. At Wooster College, (1947-53) he was the Scots number one

his Wooster team to a second place finish. He holds the distinction of never
having lost in match play competition during his entire high school and college
career. From the mid-‘40’s until the late ‘60’s, Paige dominated amateur golf in the Akron
area. He won 16 Akron District Golf Association (ADGA) tournaments, including
