2010 Summit County Sports Hall of Fame

Scholarship Recipients

 

CARA DEANGELIS, ELLET HIGH SCHOOL, GPA 4.27

 

Cara was a member of National Honor Society and senior class vice president. She was a four-year letterwinner in both cross country and track, winning team MVP in the sports a combined six times. She was All-City in track four times and in cross country three times and won the City “Runner of the Year” award as a senior. She was four-time champion of the 1,600-meter run. Her service accomplishments include volunteering on the Senior Citizen Prom, with Keep Akron Beautiful and as a Salvation Army bell ringer.

Cara plans to attend Ohio Wesleyan University and major in biochemistry.

 

KURT GAMBY, GREEN HIGH SCHOOL, GPA 3.50

 

Kurt was a baseball and basketball standout for the Bulldogs. He earned three letters in baseball, two in basketball and also participated for a year with the golf team. He was team MVP and a member of the All-Suburban team three times and helped the 2009 squad reach the state tournament. Kurt has run baseball clinics for Green youth programs and umpired numerous games. He also coached at the Green youth basketball camp. In 2009, Kurt received his certification as a personal trainer. Off the field, Kurt has taken mission trips with members of The Chapel to New York and South Africa.

Kurt will attend the University of Akron and received a scholarship the SCSHOF manages for students attending the school. He plans to major exercise physiology.
 

JACOB NORTH, BARBERTON HIGH SCHOOL, GPA 4.60

 

Jacob finished his career as Barberton as one of the school's most decorated student-athletes. He won nine varsity letters (four each in baseball and basketball, and one in cross country). He was named to the Suburban League's scholar-athlete team four times. As a senior, Jacob was a second-team all-district selection and finished as the school's second-leading scorer all-time in basketball. As a junior, he was co-player of the year in Summit County and for the Touchdown Club. In the classroom, Jacob was salutatorian of the class of 2010 and a member of the National Honor Society. His service volunteerism included efforts with the Salvation Army at a soup kitchen and at his church.

Jacob plans to attend the University of Toledo and major in pharmacy.
